Early Recollections Part 3

Flat feet occur when the arches of your feet lose their curve and fall level to the ground. There are some instances where you might need to look for custom orthotics for children with flat feet. The most obvious sign of flat feet is an arch that makes contact with the ground when standing.

Walking bare feet, without shoes or socks, results in the development of a callus on the sole of the feet. Wearing shoes with a thin sole, shoes that are narrow or cause the toes to be pressed together, or shoes with high heels cause excessive friction and pressure, thereby resulting in calluses on different parts of the feet. Take a pumice stone and rub it vigorously on the calluses to remove dead skin.Plantar Fasciitis,Pes Planus,Mallet Toe,High Arched Feet,Heel Spur,Heel Pain,Hammer Toe,Hallux Valgus,Foot Pain,Foot Hard Skin,Foot Conditions,Foot Callous,Flat Feet,Fallen Arches,Diabetic Foot,Contracted Toe,Claw Toe,Bunions Hard Skin,Bunions Callous,Bunion Pain,Ball Of Foot Pain,Back PainPlantar Fasciitis,Pes Planus,Mallet Toe,High Arched Feet,Heel Spur,Heel Pain,Hammer Toe,Hallux Valgus,Foot Pain,Foot Hard Skin,Foot Conditions,Foot Callous,Flat Feet,Fallen Arches,Diabetic Foot,Contracted Toe,Claw Toe,Bunions Hard Skin,Bunions Callous,Bunion Pain,Ball Of Foot Pain,Back Pain

Your doctor will look for patterns of wear on your child's everyday shoes. In addition, your doctor will probably examine your child's heel cord (Achilles tendon) for tightness and may check the bottom of your child's foot for calluses. Treatment for flexible flatfoot is required only if the child is experiencing discomfort from the condition. If your child has activity-related pain or tiredness in the foot, ankle, or leg, your doctor may recommend stretching exercises for the heel cord. Straighten your back leg and press your heel into the floor. Point the toes of your back foot toward the heel of your front foot. Soft-, firm-, and hard-molded arch supports may relieve your child's foot pain and fatigue. My entry record show my feet as normal.

If the foot is not collapsed, it may respond favorably to non-prescription orthotics and the aforementioned PRICE. Steroid preparations (cortisone like medicines) such as dexamethasone can be applied locally as well with a treatment called Heel Pain iontophoresis, which uses electrical current to help your body absorb these medicines. As you can imagine from the previous statement, this condition is encountered more frequently in women, as is the case with most foot conditions.

In many cases, with the properly designed foot orthosis or ankle brace, these goals can be achieved without surgical intervention. It was around this time that I started to question the conventional belief that flat feet are an irreversible condition. Using myself as a test subject I set up an experiment to find out if it was possible to restore normal arches with basic exercises. Over the course of several months I found that it is indeed possible to fix flat feet. The practice of using orthotics and motion control footwear is so firmly embedded in the health care and the running community that many people probably never considered using exercise as a viable alternative.Plantar Fasciitis,Pes Planus,Mallet Toe,High Arched Feet,Heel Spur,Heel Pain,Hammer Toe,Hallux Valgus,Foot Pain,Foot Hard Skin,Foot Conditions,Foot Callous,Flat Feet,Fallen Arches,Diabetic Foot,Contracted Toe,Claw Toe,Bunions Hard Skin,Bunions Callous,Bunion Pain,Ball Of Foot Pain,Back Pain

The development of clinical problems is dependent on the levels of activity and the amount of repetitive stress the feet must endure. During an average day, the feet support a combined force equivalent to several hundred tons. In addition to carrying the weight of the body, each foot acts as a shock absorber and a lever to propel the leg and body forward, and serves to balance and adjust the body to uneven surfaces. The overwhelming majority of flat feet are considered "flexible," and will respond well to external support. Evaluation by a foot specialist is usually necessary to determine the underlying cause of a rigid flatfoot.
